Regular Show Review

It's anything but a regular review of the Cartoon Network hit comedy, Regular Show, by f.a.s.

Regular Show description:
The series revolves around the daily lives of two 23-year-old friends, Mordecai—a blue jay, and Rigby—a raccoon. They work as groundskeepers at a park and spend their days trying to avoid work and entertain themselves by any means. This is much to the chagrin of their boss Benson—a gumball machine and their coworker Skips—a yeti, but to the delight of their manager Pops—a man with a lollipop for a head. Other coworkers include an overweight green man called Muscle Man, a ghost called Hi-Five Ghost, and an intern goat called Thomas. Mordecai often visits a local coffee house to talk to the waitress, a red breasted robin called Margaret–upon whom he has a crush.

What does f.a.s. think of Regular Show?
I love Regular Show. The moment I saw it I knew it was gonna be a show full of awesomeness. The previews at first may sounded dumb, but they ended up being hilarious in a stupid way. You know what Mordecai and Rigby did throughout the Power episode. This is the best modern CN show. It is also the reason why my interest on Cartoon Network has been restored. If you know what I'm mean...Cartoon Network was in a former sharp decline when they decide to put live action stuffs that has nothing to do with the CN name. Then once 2010 came it was a banner year for them cause of AT and this show.

My thoughts on the CharactersEdit

  • Mordecai: Out of the duo, I enjoyed Mordecai the most. He's more likable, sane, and manliness (?) than Rigby. The only time I ever hated Mordecai was when he killed Rigby in It's Time (a little out of character), kept punching Rigby at Jinx (game), Laundry Woes and to a slight exact, New Year's Kiss. Always been an enjoyable character. 10/10
  • Rigby: Rigby is less enjoyable than Mordecai but had more funny moments than him. Usually when he yells "STOP TALKING!" and make weird comments that Mordecai tends to punch Rigby. He can be a jerk at times like in Don, Do Me a Solid, Death Bear, etc. but I still enjoy Rigby. He just needs to stop being so negative. 9/10
  • Benson: A slightly likable character than Rigby, but only to has more jerk moments than him. I don't mind his rage since they're often hilarious expect when he is a jerk (Replaced, Best Burger in the World, Muscle Mentor). I hope that he become much kinder to Mordecai and Rigby in the future and I want to see an episode where Benson do care for them. 9.5/10
  • Pops: He's a very funny character. All the stuffs he does are usually the highlights of an episode (that one line in the burger episode for example). I wish the writers use him more. He's been the least used Sam Marin voiced character. 10/10
  • Skips: Another amazing character. I liked the fact that Mordecai and Rigby always go to Skips for help when they are in trouble. Mark Hamill does a great job as Skips. Skips has been the most interesting character in the show due to being the oldest and living more than 200 years. I hope the writers can focus Skips a little bit often like Pops, Benson, and Thomas. 10/10
  • Muscle Man: Great character, but I agreed to everyone that Muscle Man had been overused. He's been the most used Sam Marin voiced character ever. I don't mind the episodes he focused in but I feel like the other co-employees are underused. Other than that problem. he's still an enjoyable character. He just needs the other characters some screentime. His habits are always funny. 8.5/10
  • High Five Ghost: I don't get why a few hate HFG over his idleness. His lack of idleness had toned down a lot since he got jinxed. He was an okay character at first, but once he started speaking more often, I enjoyed slightly more than his best friend. I hope that he can get his own episode someone. 9/10
  • Margaret: Another great character, but not my favorite. I'm glad the writers had already considered Moredcai and Margaret couples now so that we cannot be impatient with their determined relationship anymore. 8.5/10
  • Eileen: I think Eileen's a cool character like Mordecai. She always been enjoyable expect in Cruisin' where she and Margaret were being mean to Mordecai and Rigby. Eileen is my favorite female character for this show. She looks like a great person to hang out with. 10/10
  • Thomas: Like Eileen and Mordecai, Thomas is a very cool character. I don't even understand why fans are turning down on him and the show lately. It's not like he ruined this show or anything. I think he is a great addition to the park. They just need to use Thomas, Pops, Skips, High Five Ghost, and Benson more often. I hope season 5 uses him more and no more of that 20 episodes hiatus he faced earlier this year. 10/10

Seasons

More opinions on those in later blogs.

Pet Peeves
While RS has always been enjoyable there are some annoyances/cons in perfect scored shows like this:
The writers can't never take a fucking break with Rigby's jerkiness. I thought it was going to be restored in the recent two seasons, only to still act like in a couple episodes.  Wall Buddy made fans hate Rigby even more  but he had shaped up after that.
Also, speaking of jerkiness, whenever Mordecau and Rigby were fighting each other like brothers. I didn't mind that in the early seasons but once it got into the third season, they were still fighting each other at times (beginning of Fuzzy Dice and Weekend at Benson's are good examples). Thank God, this was restored for most of Season 4 However, now this shit is back in the fifth season (the very first episode, beginning of Benson's Car, and New Year's Kiss). I hope they tone down that so that it can feel season 4 again.
Benson, while he can be a funny character, tends to act like a jerk sometimes such as Temp Check (beginning), Appreciation Day (somewhat), House Rules (the titular rules are the reason), Best Burgers in the World, Replaced (only fucked up scene in that episode that costed me a 10), Muscle Mentor (just no), Second Halloween episode (worst behavior in season 4), and to a smaller extant, Pie Contest. Whenever this happens, my opinion on him changes because he won't just stop being mean to M and R even if he gain some trust for them. The writers need to fix this but now it's broken in the ending of Dodge This. (spoilers)
The ludicrous amount of Muscle Man the writers been using. Unlike most people, I don't mind the MM themed episode, it's just that he's seem to the show's Creator Pet (along with Starla). A Creator Pet. Thankfully it been fixed in season 5 as he let other workers to shine.
The love themed episodes. At first, I thought they were entertaining, but looking back, meh!!! Yes Dude Yes is now a 8 out of 10 instead of 10/10 because of CJ. I don't hate that character or anything, it;s just that she's overrated. Also, if the upcoming Mordecai episodes are just love related (if he and CJ date), I may lose interest in him and he'll become a dull character (like Regular fan 101 said in her Dodge This review) and Skips will be the best character. The best love themed episode imo was Butt Dial.
The Out of Focus of certain workers especially Pops, HFG, Skips, and Thomas. Benson is kind of safe, but MM is not really (at least not anymore). At least Quintel told us there will be  a HFG and I can't wait for that. As for Pops, Skips, and Thomas, those three had the least amount of focus they've gotten lately. I can't wait for their next episode they have an important role.

Funny scenes in general
I always found Rigby telling shit jokes that causes Mordecai to punch funny as fuck.
All of Muscle Man's habits.
Benson whenever his gumballs are red-colored/angry (when done in a funny way)
Pops' crazy moments (lollipops instead of dollars)
Hi Five Ghost's facial expressions especially his grin.

Other Complaints
Voice acting is very perfect since some of them are realistic. The most realistic voices are JG Quintel (Mordecai), Bill Salyers (Rigby), Sam Marin (Benson only), Mark Hamill (Skips if he really sounded like him in general), Janie Haddad (Margaret, very noticeable since Janie only had live action credits), Roger Craig Smith (Thomas, if that his real voice) and Minty Lewis (Eileen). Sam Marin is my favorite voice actors because the way he does his Pops, Muscle Man, and RBG2 voice well. I can only do Pops' voice almost perfectly because of I know high pitched voices. I can't do a good MM however since gruff voices hurt my throat. Roger Craig Smith voice acting is great even though he done a hundred characters already.
Jeff Hutchins is the sound effects designer for the show. The same guy that made the sound effects for SpongeBob does some in this show which a surprise since they are very different.
The backgrounds are amazing. I can praise Alex Dilts, Paula Spence, Caesar Martinez, Art Morales, Craig Simmons, Amanda Thomas, Thomas Lynch, and Honore Gauthier for making/painting them. Jessica Yost has been doing a great job coloring everything as well.
The facial expressions since they have changed over time. It was very different in the early seasons (Mordecai's happy faces) but then the artist started having more exaggerated facial expressions (Think Positive is the perfect example).

Overall, Regular Show had always been a perfect show in my opinion and it is the best modern CN shows right now. I prefer this to Adventure Time any day since the former is just "Random" making the Adventure title ironic like Muscle Man's nickname. SCORE: 10/10
