Disenchantment Review

Season 1
A Princess, an Elf, and a Demon Walk Into a Bar (Matt Groening and Josh Weinstein): A decent start to the third Matt Groening show. Title is pretty ironic as we only saw the bar for once scene, but it gives us a first look at the characters. So far, they're pretty light on jokes, but the funniest joke is still passable. No major flaws, aside from some dull moments. 6/10

For Whom the Pig Oinks (David X Cohen): Slow beginning aside, the episode was actually an improvement from the first one after spending 30 minutes getting to know the characters. The comedy was more stronger here and so is the characterization. And we got ourself a Lady and the Tramp but in pigs style, with sausage. The Elmo joke was the highlight for me. 8/10

The Princess of Darkness (Rich Fulcher): The first and third act were stronger. While the middle dragged a bit, the comedy and storytelling has been noticeably improving by a margin compared to the first two episodes. I don't know why but Elfo and Luci are like clones of Bart, but in a good way because the original prankster himself has been acting very off in recent Simpsons seasons and I approve of their tomfoolery. 8/10

Castle Party Massacre (Jeff Rowe): So Josh brought in two of Gravity Falls writers to work with him in this show, huh? I'll say the episode was an improvement, but then I repeat the same flaws I have before. One thing's for sure, this one was a lot more comedic than usual, but at the same thing it doesn't feel relevant to the story. 8/10

Faster, Princess! Kill! Kill! (Reid Harrison): Here, we have an episode where Zorg kicks her own daughter out because of her reckless behavior. Wow, that is something I would relate to if I was a drunk, but I have a pretty strict stepdad that still treats like a little kid. Unforunately, the writing felt weaker due to its cliched plot that I bet many of you seen on television a million times. Still, Bean's characterization, Luci's scenes, the comedy saved it from being a complete mess.7/10

Swamp and Circumstance (Eric Horsted): A slightly better episode than the previous installment with a clear focus in storytelling. Bean and Luci still provides a lot of nice one-liners. And knew Luci and Elfo couldn't get along? Zorg is written somewhat nicer here, at least in the end. 8/10

Love's Tender Rampage (Jeny Batten & M. Dickson): To tell you the truth, this one started pretty well with a lot of funny moments of Bean tripping. Once the plot switches to about Elfo's romance with the giant, things get worse every passing act. Who wasn't surprised that he lied to her just to be his girlfriend? The humor isn't strong either, so it ended up being the weakest episode of the show so far. 6/10

The Limits of Immortality (Patrick M Verrone): IMO, the show is starting to shine here. Its main story is coming in play as things are about to get crazy especially during the climax of the plot. While there are certainly less jokes around here, most of them revolves on the laughing horse. 9/10

To Thine Own Elf Be True (Shion Takeuchi): While Elfo isn't the greatest character out of the main trio, we are treated to some character development here. I think he's starting to become more than Bart Elf and a weird creature that hits on a human girl for some reason. The writing is solid than usual and you thank a writer from Regular Show and Gravity Falls for that. 9/10

Dreamland Falls (Bill Oakley): Many people claims the show really gets great. While episode 8 was when the show got better, I has to agree with them that this is the best episode of Disenchantment so far. The show got less funny ,and exchanged most of the jokes for the drama and story, something that Groening's two shows are good at. By the end of part one, I was actually invegested with the story and can't wait to see what comes next. 10/10
